It all began by falling in love with a dog named Blaze, the first cocker spaniel I knew. Blaze was my assigned flush dog on a plantation in Georgia, where I guided quail hunts to fund my education. Our love of spaniels is deep and is rivaled only by their love for us. We are Sara and Chad Leonard, and our family is committed to seeing the breed improve through responsible breeding, evolving training tactics, and being tested through field trials and hunt tests. When it comes to our approach at Hillcountry Gundogs, it’s truly a family thing-we personally handle every aspect of our kennel rather than hiring help. We find that this eliminates inconsistencies for each dog, ensures every task is done with excellence, and provides peace of mind for those entrusting us with their dog! Heck, we’ll even pick up and drop off your dog if it makes life easier for you.

We love to hunt birds and compete with our cockers, and have had great success over the years. Each dog we have hunted or trialed has to be trained first. Step one is foundational obedience, and this is our area of expertise. It brings us great joy to witness a dog transform from green to polished, and the impact this has on their owners is even BETTER! Regardless of the breed you love, we can get you and your dog to the next level.

We are located in Wise County, which is 30 mi. north of Fort Worth. Our grounds are vast and remarkable with woods, water, and fields.
